MRI experimental and finite elements modeling of the sedimentation-consolidation of mud
Expérimentation par IRM et modélisation par éléments finis de la sédimentation-consolidation des vases
Abstract
Settling and consolidation of colloidal and non-colloidal suspensions are investigated from a nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) vertical prototype. The mathematical model of Gibson with a 1D numerical modeling based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) are presented. A time “Lax Wendroff” discretization with a shock capturing technique (Flux Corrected Transport, FCT) is used for the propagation of concentration fronts. Finally comparisons between experiment and simulation are proposed and discussed for the case of non-colloidal and colloidal suspension.
